Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share some ideas for a (currently nameless!) SCG Newsletter. I’d love to work with you!
This page gives you some ideas of a digital format we could use as well as some ideas. But it’s just a starting point: I’ve got plenty more ideas for how we could make this more interactive! But I wanted to share some thoughts before taking a closer look;
A Bit About Me
I’m Jill; part time Yorkshire, part time Sandbanks resident! After countless delightful holidays in Sandbanks, we were finally lucky enough to buy a place in Sandbanks in Summer this year. Like I imagine most of you do, I pinch myself every morning I wake up. Sandbanks is just brilliant; it’s beautiful, bijou and the sun always seems to shine more than anywhere else in Britain! So it’s no surprise that I spend as much time as possible here, with my partner and our two boys.

So why could I write great newsletters for SCG?
I’ve got lots of experience in creating engaging content for communities and groups. For a number of years now, I’ve written for community magazines, designed and developed websites and even written my own book to support parents who have lost their children.
I like to think I’ve got what it takes to pull together a great looking, energetic, easy to read newsletter. And the fact that I love Sandbanks has got to help, right?
Anyone who knows me well will say that I’m a bit quirky. But I think that’s a good thing. I’ve got loads of ideas on how we could bring this newsletter to life. This should hopefully help both engage and broaden membership, and give something that can provide fuller updates to those currently shared on Whatsapp and the website.
I won’t be shy when it comes to suggesting ideas. I hope a newsletter will be something that can build nicely onto the existing website and social media too. But, of course, it needs a name first: Peninsula Points? The Sandbanks Skinny? Smooth Waters? The list of options goes on!
So What Does a Newsletter Mean to Me?
Well, aside from expanding on what you already communicate, I think a newsletter (or the digital version at least) should serve as a two way tool. So why not use it to see what our fellow residents think? This could be hot topics like the use of Beryl Bikes & Scooters, or simple things just to gather consensus. We could, for example, even ask them what this newsletter should be called!
Of course, the point of the newsletter is to pull together a summary of all the great work that Sandbanks Community Group does. With good content and copy, we will will undoubtedly drive membership up, and make sure the wider community hears our message. As well as new stories, we could link to posts on social media, or share statistics (see below):
Or we could include links to the SCG website and our upcoming events:
Hopefully this gives you an insight into the type of things we could do.
I’d love an opportunity to talk you through this newsletter, and my wider ideas.
Jill
